Yin, like many ancient concepts, is a rather abstract concept. Generally in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) ,it represents the foundation of life. It is also described as nurturing, providing fluids and nourishment to all life forms.
The deficit in Yin will therefor, brings up different symptoms to a person.
A person who belong to a classic Type 2 (Yinxu) body type will most likely present most or all of the following symptoms:
1. Sensitivity to spices and spicy food
Type 2 individuals response to spicy food more acutely than others. A pack of spicy chips or some chili dish can set off a gum inflammation or swollen nymph glands around the neck. This symptom is not considered as allergy in TCM but rather a reaction to this type of food according to the body type since the reaction usually disappear or subside when the body type is corrected.Symptoms usually worsen in dry season.
2. Chronic Constipation
It is common for Type 2 individuals to have chronic constipation. Although a lot of reasons can set off constipation according to TCM, type 2 constipation has the following characteristics: 1.producing hard,small pebbles-like excretion. 2.Symptoms usually worsen after ingesting spicy food or in dry season.
3. A cherry red tongue and blistering lips.
Tongue inspecting is one of the most important diagnostic skills in TCM. Type 2 individuals usually have a cherry red tongue and blistering,dry lips. Symptoms usually worsen after ingesting spicy food or in dry season.
4. Low sensitivity to cold weather. 'Hot' feeling in extremities and chest.
Type 2 individuals are usually less sensitive to cold weather. They are the people who walk around with relatively 'thin' clothing in cold season. Although, it does not means that they are more resistant to low temperatures. Type 2 are simply not as sensitive to low temperatures to react as quickly as others. They also tend to feel extra warmth in their extremities and chest despite a normal body temperature. Symptoms usually worsen after ingesting spicy food or in dry season.
5.Tinnitus, vaginal dryness and dry eyes
Many type 2 people suffers from Tinnitus, vaginal dryness and dry eyes. As with many other symptoms in Type 2, they usually worsen after ingesting spicy food or in dry season.
6. Easily irritable and excitable
The mental trademarks of Type 2 individuals are irritability and excitability. They are easily excitable or irritated and usually find it fairly difficult to stay focus or to calm down for a long period of time.
7. Decrease and yellow urination
Type 2 individuals produce less urine than others. They may urinate at a normal frequency but the volume is lessen and, instead of the healthy light yellow color, type 2 people produce more 'yellowish' urine.
8. Good appetite and underweight
Type 2 individuals usually have a good appetite. They are, however the amount they ingest, usually slender. Many of them do not reach their normal body weight.
9.Short menstrual cycle and small volume in menstrual discharge.
Most Type 2 women has an unusually short menstrual cycle - some less than 3 days and a small volume in menstrual discharge.
If you have most or all of these symptoms on a regular basis, it is fairly certain that you belong to Type 2 body type.

Body types introduction : Type 1 - Yangxu

The deficit in Yang will therefor, brings up different symptoms to a person.
A person who belong to a classic Type 1 (Yangxu) body type will most likely present most or all of the following symptoms:
1. Sensitivity to cold
Type 1 individuals response to low temperature more acutely than other body types. If you always have to put on one or even a few more clothes just to keep warm - compare to people around you, it is likely that you belong to Type 1.
2. Low libido
It is common for Type 1 individuals to have a low libido compare to others. This symptoms is especially clear during cold season.
3.A fat and 'baby-like' tongue
Tongue inspecting is one of the most important diagnostic skills in TCM. Type 1 individuals usually have a 'fat' and 'baby liked' tongue.
4.Dark eye circles and pale lips
Type 1 individuals usually have very persistent dark eye circles and pale lips. As with most symptoms for this body type, this symptom usually becomes more apparent in cold season.
5.Chronic diarrhea
According to TCM,there are many causes for chronic diarrhea. Type 1 individuals often suffer from this symptom with the following characteristics: 1.Diarrhea happens mainly in the morning. 2.Sensitivity to cold food and drinks - Type 1 individuals develops diarrhea easily after ingesting cold drinks or food. Sometimes a glass of cold drink is enough to set off a diarrhea. 3. Indigestion - when severe, excretion will contain partly or entirely of undigested food with still clear original shapes and colors.
6.Frequent urination
Frequent urination is a common characteristic in Type 1 individuals. A Type 1 person feels the urge to urinate more often than others no matter day or night. In severe cases, the person may have to wake up in the middle of the night to urinate.
7.Depression
Mild to server depression is present in many type 1 individual. As in most symptoms of Type 1, depression in these individuals worsen in cold season and is least serve in hot season.
8.Thinning hair
Thinning hair is also a common trait in type 1 individuals. Although, according to TCM, there are many reasons as to why thinning hair will develops, so we include this symptom as a reference only.

Classification of Body types is a crucial basic in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
In professional practice, classification of body types is a lot more detailed and complicated.
However, here we will only introduce the basic grouping methods.
Despite thousands of years in practice,TCM does not develop a clear identification of different body types until 1970s. Nowadays, there are nine body types commonly used in TCM.
It is important to note that, in TCM's understanding, people usually belongs to more than one body type, which means people usually belongs to multiple body types. The only exceptions are children or infants, which is likely to belong to a single body type. As people advance in age, it is less and less likely that they will belong to a singe body type.
However, in most cases, there is a 'dominant' body type that runs through a person during his/her life time. In TCM, it is believed that it helps keeping one's health in check when one identify their own body type and take care of themselves accordingly.
The followings are the names of the nine body types in TCM:
Type 1 - Yangxu
Type 2 - Yinxu
Type 3 - Qixu
Type 4 - Yuxie
Type 5 - Tanshi
Type 6 - Shire
Type 7 - Qiyu
Type 8 - Pinghe
Type 9 -Tebing
